TERRAPINS END SUMMER WITH ASSUALT ON RECORD BOOKS

The Terrapins ended the 2018 swim year with some incredible swims and shattering local, regional and national record books. The Terrapins set 4 new Pacific Swimming records and 4 USA Junior National records at the season ending Far Western Championships held in Orinda and at the USA Junior National Championships in Irvine, California.

The team also scored very high in both the Far Western Championships and USA Junior Nationals. The team scored a 5th place team finish at the Far Western Champs and also won a 5th place combined team finish at the USA Junior Nationals, as well as an amazing 2nd place Men’s team finish.

USC bound Alexie Sancov tied for the meet men’s High Point award by winning the 200fr, getting 2nd place in the 100fr and 100fly and garnering a 6th place finish in the 50 free.

New Pacific records were set by the Terrapins 15-18 boys where they broke the 200 Free Relay, 200Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay records and Andrei Minakov broke the 15-16 boys 100m Free record with a blistering 49.06 swim. USA Junior National records were set by Andrei Minakov in the 100m free with a 49.06 and 100m fly with a 51.88.  Alexei Sancov capped off a great Terrapin senior year with a new Junior National record in the 200m free with a 1:47.75. The final USA Junior national record was set by the Terrapins 400 Free Relay quartet of Matt Fetterman, Andrew Rodriguez, Andrei Minakov and Alexei Sancov.

The Terrapins blistering USA Junior National swims included 4 Junior Nationals Championships:

Andrei Minakov (16) – 1st place 100m Fly 51.88, 1st place 100m Free 49.06

Alexei Sancov (18) – 1st place 200 free 1:47.75

Men’s 400 free relay -1st Place  (Matt Fetterman, Andrew Rodriguez, Andrei Minakov, Alexei Sancov)

Other Breakthrough life time best swims included:

Adrian Dulay(15) – 100m Breast 1:06.36, 100m Fly 58.37

Andrew Rodriguez(17) – 100m Back 57.80, 200m Back 2:06.86

Sasha Liu(17) – 100m Fly 1:04.30, 200m IM 2:21.85, 50m Free 27.40

Matt Fetterman(17) – 200m Free 1:54.98

Maile Andresen (14) – 50m Free 27.07

The Far Western Championships produced many life best swims by Terrapin swimmers. Leading the group was 12 year old Lilly Struempf who swam 6 life best swims and scored top 8 in all 6 events. Aden Li(12) swam to 3 lifetime bests and scored top 8 in all 3 events for his age group. Maile Andresen(14) swam to 4 top 8 swims, highlighted by a 2nd place finish in the 100m free in 59.87.

Jessica Larson swam a life best in the 50m free with a 1st place time of 26.73, while Cal Tech bound senior Danica Adams scored in 2 finals. UCLA bound Emily Lo won both the 100 and 200 Breastroke swims and Deniz Jones fscored top 8 in the 200m Breast.  Clayton standout Niklas Weigelt won the 100m Free in 52.01 and scored top 8 in 3 other events. Concord resident Anthony Vizental had an amazing meet swimming 4 best times and scoring in all 4 finals.  The youngest TERA standout, 10 year old Elizabeth Joseph, swam to 3 top 8 finishes.

Robert Mitchell was successful in swimming two NEW USA Winter Junior national times in the 400 and 800m free events.
